Authors Guideline

International Journal of Epidemiology and Tropical Medicine (IJETM) publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed original research, systematic reviews, short communications, and outbreak reports in epidemiology, tropical diseases, and public health. All manuscripts must be submitted in English and prepared strictly according to these guidelines.

1. General Requirements

  • Originality: Manuscripts must be original work, not previously published, and not currently under consideration by any other journal.

  • Language: Written in clear, concise, standard Academic English (American or British, applied consistently).

  • Format: Submitted as a Microsoft Word (.docx) file. Use A4 page size, 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins, 12-pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with continuous line numbers enabled.

  • Length:

    • Original Research: 3,500 – 6,000 words (excluding Abstract and References). Max 6 figures/tables.

    • Review Articles: Up to 8,000 words. Max 8 figures/tables.

    • Short Communications / Outbreak Reports: 1,500 – 2,500 words. Max 3 figures/tables.

2. Manuscript Structure

Submitted manuscripts should be organized in the following order:

Title Page (Uploaded Separately for Blind Review)

  • Title: Concise, informative, avoiding abbreviations (max 20 words).

  • Author Info: Full names, affiliations, ORCID IDs, and official email addresses of all authors.

  • Corresponding Author: Clearly designated with full mailing address and contact details.

Main Manuscript (Blinded)

1. Title, Abstract, & Keywords

  • Abstract: Structured format (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion) containing 200–250 words. Must be self-contained without citations.

  • Keywords: 3 to 6 keywords using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms where possible, separated by semicolons.

2. Main Text Sections

  • Introduction: State the background, rationale, gap in existing literature, and explicit study objective/hypothesis.

  • Methods: Describe the study design, population, sampling, diagnostics/field methods, statistical analysis, and ethical approval in detail. Include ethical committee approval numbers.

  • Results: Present findings logically using text, tables, and figures. Avoid redundant presentation of data in both text and graphics.

  • Discussion: Interpret results in light of existing literature, highlight novel insights, address study limitations, and outline public health or clinical implications.

  • Conclusion: Concise synthesis of main findings directly linked to the study objectives.

3. Back Matter (Mandatory)

  • Ethical Approval Statement: Name of the ethics board and protocol/approval code.

  • Competing Interests: Declare any financial or personal conflicts of interest.

  • Funding Statement: List funding sources and grant numbers (or state "This research received no external funding").

  • Author Contributions: Defined using CRediT taxonomy (e.g., Conceptualization, Methodology, Writing – Original Draft).

  • Data Availability: Explicit statement on where raw data can be accessed.

3. Tables, Figures, and Math

  • Tables: Embed in the text near their first mention. Use simple gridlines (three horizontal lines: top, header border, bottom). Captions must be placed above the table.

  • Figures: Submit high-resolution images (minimum 300 DPI in .tif or .png). Captions must be placed below the figure.

  • Equations: Use MathType or MS Word Equation Editor. Enclose variables and complex inline equations in standard LaTeX notation ($...$).

4. References & Citation Style

IJETM follows the Vancouver Citation Style (Numbered sequentially in order of appearance in the text using square brackets [1], [1, 2], or [1-3]).

  • In-text Citation: End of sentence before punctuation or directly after author name [1].

  • Reference List: Formatted according to NLM / Vancouver standards. Include DOI numbers ([https://doi.org/](https://doi.org/)...) for all references where available.

5. Ethical Guidelines & Declarations

  • Human and Animal Rights: Studies involving human participants must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and undergo Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval. Animal studies must follow standard laboratory animal care guidelines.

  • Informed Consent: Written informed consent must be obtained from human subjects (or guardians) and stated in the Methods section.

  • Plagiarism Policy: All submitted manuscripts undergo screening via similarity software (Turnitin / iThenticate). Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 15–20% will be rejected or returned for revision.

6. Submission Checklist & Supplementary Documents

Authors must upload the following files during online submission:

  1. Title Page (with complete author metadata).

  2. Main Manuscript (anonymized for double-blind peer review).

  3. Ethics Clearance Certificate (PDF copy, if applicable).
